Our first RV trip of the year to ensure everything is in working order and we become accustomed to living in the rig prior to our sojourn west this summer. Good thing, as we learned we have lots more to do to prepare! First and foremost is to make a comprehensive list of EVERYTHING so nothing gets left behind. Don’t ask but suffice it to say, Sue packed all her clothing…..
The new swivel passenger seat that Joe installed is terrific and really increases the livability of the rig—every little bit of additional space is impactful— and Sue did not go flying through the windshield as she had feared might happen.
This time of year Cape May holds the promise and magic of summer ahead. This week especially, the shops and restaurants were springing into action to prepare for the Memorial Day crowds. We are immensely grateful to be retired and traveling off peak. Hiking the beach on a Tuesday without the crowds and fear of accumulating work at the office, who could imagine it would be so restorative!!

We frequently stay at The Depot Travel Park in West Cape May. It’s proximity to The Lighthouse and Nature Conservancy, restaurants, town, etc., and terrific amenities (nice bath house and laundry facilities), make it the perfect home base for us. We leave the rig parked and use our Specialized E-Bikes to travel around the area.

We spent several afternoons walking the nature trails at the Cape May Point State Park and the adjoining Cape May Meadows Nature Conservancy. These areas are well-known birding locations and offer an opportunity to see a variety of wildlife.

On the ride back to Philly, we decided that while there is comfort in the familiarity of Cape May (the ocean and beach speak especially to Sue’s soul), we are both excited to move on and see new sights. Oregon and Pacific Ocean, here we come!
