A little scary

The western part of the US has experienced some frightening weather. We experienced a little taste of that today. There was a thunder storm warning issued for Interior, SD at 4:15 PM. The storm started right on schedule and lasted 45 minutes. Winds and were strong and sustained. There were moments when we thought the van might tip. Hail was present, but fortunately small in size.

I didn’t have the presence of mind to take a screen shot of the local radar map during the storm. This is the radar map 35 minutes after the storm passed. We are just east of Rapid City.

The areas of the rig that I can inspect appear fine. I am unable to inspect the roof so it is not clear if we sustained any hail damage on top. Fortunately there were no leaks and the solar panels, which are on the roof, are charging. I was most concerned about damage to the solar panels.

Others in the campsite were not so fortunate. Many tent campers had to abandon their tents.

The weather after the storm is beautiful. It is 72 degrees and the sky is clear. The only evidence of the storm is the damaged tents and ponding water all around.

Phew! We seem to have survived this one.
