Turns out that taking two quick trips in May was beneficial in so many ways. As mentioned in our last post, two of our favorite beach communities include the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Cape May, New Jersey. The purpose of traveling to these locales was to ensure the rig was ready for the longer 6-week and 3-month trips we have planned for later this spring and summer. In addition to accomplishing that goal, we happily found our spirits and souls renewed!
The trip to the Outer Banks took us through Baltimore where we visited Joe’s 102 year old Uncle James and his cousin. It’s been a very long time since we’ve seen them and we had such a lovely visit. The next day, we visited with Joe’s sister and had lunch with his Mom in Midlothian, VA before heading south to the Oregon Inlet Campground on Cape Hatteras Island. We even got to meet new goldendoodle puppy, Ruby, who greeted us and gnawed on our ankles for a while. So sweet and cute!

Thinking back, the highlight for Joe of our OBX trip was the first hour of sitting on the beach this season. He said his heart and spirit were renewed. Sue always loves walking along the beach and watching the many shore birds but another highlight includes partaking of tried and true beach treats (see gallery below), and shopping, of course.
Several of our favorite southern OBX beach joints (we didn’t visit Duck this time):
After a brief stop at home in Pennsylvania, we turned around and left for Cape May. On the way to the Jersey beach, our traditional first stop is typically Weber’s Drive In on Route 30 in Pennsauken, NJ. Our sandwiches (cheeseburger and grilled chicken) were cooked to perfection and the fries, as always, were yummy. Great way to start a trip and it was a week of beach and food after that! See photos and descriptions below….
We were grateful to have embarked on these two short excursions as we identified a surprisingly long list of items still needed for our longer trips.
Regardless of where we travel, we always love returning home to a city that is so near and dear to both of our hearts….

We hope you, too, enjoy the warmth of the sun and have a sweet summer. We’re off to PEI soon!
