We stopped in the liquor store in Edmundson, NB to pick up a bottle of Bourbon. We were hoping to find Yellowstone Bourbon, which we first discovered while shopping on Prince Edward Island last year, but The Wiseman or even Knob Creek would do. Coastal Nova Scotia weather was looking to be cool, with highs in the 60’s and lows in the upper 40’s so we thought little bourbon would be good.

We were extremely surprised when we could not find any of the bourbons we liked. Actually, we could not find ANY bourbon. When we asked about the lack of products we were told that no American alcohol products were available for sale anywhere in Canada. This was a result of the US tariff debacle. The ban included all American alcohol products, including wine. We were embarrassed to have asked and fully appreciate the reason for the absence of American products from the shelves.

We also noticed that grocery stores were pointing out Canadian grown products using special signs and labels. We assume this was to assist those who wanted to avoid purchasing American produce and other food products.

We have been in Canada for nearly two weeks (as we write this). We are pleased to say we have experienced nothing but kindness and civility both at the border and at all the campgrounds, museums, attractions and stores we have visited, despite all the absurd perturbations directed by our government toward Canada.

So we happily left the store with a bottle of Signal Hill Canadian Whisky.
