Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

This delayed post is from our Finger Lakes trip...

We had stopped in Seneca Falls specifically to visit The Women’s Rights National Historical Site. Much to our surprise, we discovered that Seneca Falls is believed to have inspired the fictional town of Bedford Falls in the classic Christmas movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life” and that there is a museum dedicated to the movie.

For those of you not familiar with this 1946 Frank Capra movie, it stars James Stewart as George Bailey, the head of a family-owned Building and Loan who has stayed in Bedford Falls rather than pursue his dreams. Stewart makes an accidental financial mistake that puts his family’s business at risk. Because of this, he contemplates suicide on Christmas Eve and a guardian angel, Clarence, is sent to save him.

Clarence explaining to George why his life is important. “Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?

It was great fun to view the memorabilia in the “It’s a Wonderful Life” Museum, and walk to the infamous bridge featured in the movie where George Bailey contemplated ending his life. The Museum hosts an “It’s a Wonderful Life” Festival annually in December. If you haven’t watched the movie yet, it should be available on cable or for rent (Apple TV has it), and we recommend streaming it.

The “It’s a Wonderful Life” museum is open Tuesday – Saturday. The museum is located in downtown Seneca Falls near a public parking lot at 19 Cayuga St. The lot can accommodate RVs up to 24 feet.

Merry Christmas if you celebrate and/or Happy Holidays! We are grateful to share our travels with you on this site and for those of you who follow along.
