Redman Central Oregon KOA in Culver, OR

We are on our way to Crater Lake National Park, which is a 360 mile drive from Pendleton. We decided to stay at this KOA since it was right on our route and just a few miles away from Smith Rock State Park.

Like many RVers, we watched a lot of Youtube videos at first to get a sense of what to expect from RV travel and now mostly to get a preview of locations to visit. Smith Rock State Park came to our attention while watching From She to Me, which features a husband and wife who used to travel in a Pleasure Way Ascent but now own a custom Humble Road Van.

This is a smallish campground, surrounded by farmland, with only 56 sites and a few cabins. Sites are grass and gravel and many have a single tree for shade. There is a mixture of water-electric and full-service (water, electric and sewer) sites. We like full-service sites since we use the shower in our motorhome rather than the showers provided by the park. Nothing fills up the grey tank quicker than two of us taking a shower, especially if one of us needs to wash their hair. (I let you guess which one of us uses more water to wash their hair 😜). Having the sewer at the site allows us to empty the grey tank without moving — especially appreciated when leveling is involved.

Here is where we ran into a problem that we have experienced before at other campgrounds. The sewer connection was located at the rear of the site and the most level part of the site was at the front. Our 20 foot sewer hose would never reach the sewer connection unless we moved the motorhome.

It was July 1 and the July 4 holiday fell on a Saturday so we were concerned they would not have an open site available for us to move. Much to our surprise, the KOA folks were able to move us to a site (22) much better suited to our small motorhome. Our thanks go to the nice people in the KOA office!

We paid $75 a night for a full-service site. The weather was beautiful and the neighboring RVers and tenters were friendly. We had a great stay. This KOA has an all-you-can-eat breakfast on the weekends and a Pizza Shack open every day in season (fee required for both). This is a nice place to stop if you are traveling down Route 97 and need a place to stay.

Looking forward to visiting Smith Rock State Park tomorrow.
