We finally made it to Florida! This was our second attempt to visit the Sunshine State in our RV. Back in 2023, we had to delay our departure due to health issues and cancel a portion of a planned trip, which included visiting Florida and Louisiana. This trip, we marked the occasion of reaching Florida by applying a decal to the map on the back of our motorhome. This was state number 44 for us!

We stayed at Harbor Lakes in Port Charlotte. This RV resort had a feature we have never experienced before: Small cottages mixed in with RV sites. Apparently, tenants can rent a lot and are free to build a single story cottage. There are over 550 sites evenly split between RV sites and cottages.

The resort has a pool, laundry facilities, and Basketball, Bocce Ball, Shuffleboard and Pickleball Courts. A food truck comes for lunch on Mon, Wed and Fri of each week.

The main goal of our trip was to visit Sue’s cousins who live in Florida. It’s been many years and a pandemic since they last visited. It was great to spend time together and reconnect!

After our time in Florida, we’ll be heading home for doctor’s appts. In order to keep our travel days reasonable, we are going to cover the 1,126 miles to home in four days. We’ll be staying at Harvest Hosts for the next three nights (a brewery, distillery and winery).

Despite the waterways and lakes surrounding our campground in Port Charlotte, we were relieved to not encounter a single alligator on this trip!
